B.Sc. in chemistry Address: Sciences II, 30 Quai E.-Ansermet, 1211 Geneva 4 |
Research Activities and Competence:
Development of :
· microsensors, mini/micro integrated analytical systems for the measurement
of well defined metal species or group of metal species in complex media (natural
waters, soils)
· individually addressable microsensor arrays and probe allowing real
time measurements of concentration micro-profiles and the determination of trace
elements fluxes in stratified or non-homogeneous environmental media (sediment-water
interfaces, bio-films)
· submersible probes, with remote control from land stations, allowing
in situ, autonomous and simultaneous measurements of specific fractions of trace
metals and master bio-physicochemical variables in aquatic systems
· portable instrument allowing automatic, continuous measurements of
trace metal speciation in shallow rivers or run-off waters.
Application in laboratory, on site and in situ of the analytical tools and methodologies developed to :
· study the complexation of trace metals by the natural ligands (organic
and inorganic species, colloids and particles)
· study the trace metal speciation in soils as a function of the growing
of hyper-accumulator plants.
· monitor the concentration profiles of trace compounds at natural interfaces
· measure at the site or in situ trace metal speciation in the aquatic
ecosystems (rivers, lakes, ground-waters, estuaries, sea waters)
· monitor the temporal and spatial evolution of trace metal speciation
in the aquatic systems as a function of the bio-physicochemical conditions
· evaluate the water quality and give timely appropriate warning/alarm
in case of significant/sudden increase of priority pollutant levels.
Complementary measurements with traditional laboratory techniques for the characterization and validation of the analytical tools and methodologies developed and the interpretation of the in situ measurements of trace metal speciation.
