The Geneva conference will be used to announce the release of
version 2.0 of MatClass and the presentation will outline the
current state of MatClass which has been updated and extended
since its first release at the Montreal meeting of the SEDC. The
paper will briefly discuss the design of MatClass as an
efficient and portable numerical library. The role of advanced
C++ features, such as templates and exception handling, will be
discussed. I/O in Version 2.0 continues to be stream based, but
it includes facilities to generate 2-D graphs in PostScript and
tables in LaTeX. Simple econometric jobs are supported in a set
of classes based on Jon Stewart's ECOS program and textbooks.
The LaTeX documentation for version 2.0 will be appropriately
updated; help files based on Web technology are under
development. A suite of test programmes and examples of major
applications, particularly in genetic algorithms, will be
released with this version. Speculation on the potential use of
the newer Web technology, particularly JAVA and VRML, will
complete the presentation.
