University of Applied Sciences Postdam, Germany

Faculty of Social and Educational Sciences:

M.A. Childhood Studies and Children's Rights (MACR): The core element of the interdisciplinary and international programme M.A. Childhood Studies and Children’s Rights is the active and effective participation of children (and young people) in social processes. It is based on the understanding of Childhood(s) as a social, historically changeable phenomenon and of children as social subjects who are to be respected as such, with own views, interests and competencies. Special emphasis lies on an understanding of children’s rights as socially and culturally contextualized subjective rights.

• Course length: three semesters (1 1/2 years); seven modules and M.A. thesis.
• Amount of credit points to be gained: 90 ECTS.
• Integrated internship or practical project respectively (theory-practice link).
• There is also the option to write a theoretical research proposal.
The seven modules are: Childhood Studies, Children's Rights, Methods and Techniques of Childhood and Children's Rights Research, Work and Education of Children, Children Out of Place and Children and Media.

The MACR is directed to graduates of related disciplinary fields and to professionals working in the field of childhood and children’s rights. Whereas the programme is also open to interested persons coming from more distant fields who have an interest in a career change or would like to get an insight in a new field.
