29 May – 3 June 2017 – Mara Tignino is invited to intervene in the XVIth World Water Congress

The Geneva Water Hub participates at the XVI World Water Congress « Bridging Science and Policy » which will be held in Cancún (Mexico) from 29 May to 3 June 2017. The Congress is jointly organized by the International Water Resources Association (IWRA), the National Water Commission of Mexico (CONAGUA) and the National Association of Water and Sanitation Utilities (ANEAS).

The Secretariat of the Global High Level Panel on Water and Peace organizes a Special Session on « Peace for Water: The Global High Level Panel on Water and Peace’s Vision » on Tuesday 30 May 2017 from 9:00 to 10:30.

Mr. Alvaro Umaña Quesada, Vice-Chair of the Global High Level Panel and Former Minister of Energy and Environment in Costa Rica will give some insights on the Report of the Panel. Mara Tignino will intervene on the topic of the use of water as a target and a weapon in armed conflicts.

Mara Tignino will also participate in the Special Session organized by the International Association for Water Law (AIDA) on the 29 May 2017. This Session will present the Online Training Course on the "“Greening” of Water Law. Implementing Environment Friendly Principles in Contemporary Water Treaties and Laws." She will also present a joint paper co-authored with the International Hydrological Programme of UNESCO, the University of Thompson River and the Indigenous World Forum on Water and Peace. The presentation is entitled "Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities's Water Rights, International Law and Water Security".
