In October 2015 Kai Nino Streicher joined the Institute of Environmental Science and Department F.-A. Forel as a Ph.D. student and research assistant in the field of energy efficiency. In his Ph.D. thesis the technical and economic potential of retrofitting the existing residential building stock in Switzerland is examined. Kai’s research is grounded on an interdisciplinary and holistic approach which includes system analysis, model and database development as well as life cycle methodology.
Kai received his B.Eng. in Process and Environmental Technology from the University of Applied Science (HTWG) in Konstanz, Germany in 2011. Besides following lectures in chemical and mechanical engineering, he had the opportunity to take part in an interdisciplinary programme on sustainable development.The insights gained from this programme as well as an internship at the German Technical Cooperation (GIZ) in Bangladesh led Kai to subsequently enrol for a master programme in Science for Sustainable Development at Linköping University, Sweden. After the successful master thesis and the following M.Sc. degree, Kai joined University of Geneva .for his Ph.D. studies.
