Internalization of behavior repertoires, values, and attitudes can be contrasted with passive exposure to new material. Internalization, in the present talk, comes about through role-playing, active practice, and improvisation. Its outcomes -- a self with active and creative prowess -- are reflected both on cognitive and behavioral levels. Internal consistency is not the criterion, as internalization processes lead to a person who appears ambiguous and internally contradictory.
