Mercury fluxes in Lake Geneva, published in Environmental Science and Pollution Research

A new publication by the Department presents results of a two-year survey on vertical flux of mercury (total and methylmercury) in Lake Geneva water column. Mercury sources are essentially related to river loads, with higher fluxes close to the shore than in the lake center. In contrast, methylmercury concentrations (which represents a very small fraction of the total) present higher concentrations in settling particles than in sediment, with no relation to distance to the shore, pointing to an internal production in the water column.
