- Polemics
- Pedagogy
- Early Protestant historiography
- Calvin's Bible commentaries and personal reading

Calvin drawn, 1900-2009: between tradition and mockery?
This small exhibition in the main corridor on the first floor of the Bibliothèque de Genève shows some of the ways in which graphic artists of the 20th and 21st century have played with Calvin's image. A tradition inherited from the early portraits of the reformer and from history paintings of the 19th century still influences some drawings and comic strips of the 20th century, but it is progressively challenged by an emerging tradition of caricature shaped first by the satirical press and political cartoons, then increasingly by printed matter of the most diverse kind ranging from wine labels to calendars. Five hundred years after his birth, virtually the only images one finds of Calvin are marked by irony, if not outright mockery. An amusing and informative little exhibition.

Using the latest video technology to communicate with visitors of all ages and backgrounds, this exhibition will seek to separate myth from reality and to situate Calvin in his historical context by following him through a day in his life in Geneva from the time he got out of bed at 4 a.m. to his bedtime at 9 p.m.. Eight pavilions will offer 3-dimensional re-creations of scenes such as a sermon in St Pierre cathedral, a stormy Consistory meeting, or a confrontation with Servetus, with the characters speaking amid period furnishings and costumes. Engravings, rare books, and other objects complete the exhibition.
