Global Cooperation Center at the Penthes Estate: the State Council determined to implement the project

On 26 June 2013, the Geneva State Council formally announced its support to the project of a Center for Global Cooperation at the Penthes Estate, presented by the University of Geneva (UNIGE) and the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID).

Following a call for projects in 2011, the UNIGE and IHEID submitted a joint project integrating IOs, NGOs, think tanks, academic institutions and the private sector in an innovative way. The aim is to create a hub for expertise, solution-oriented thinking and dialogue serving Geneva's international community. This will benefit from the unique surroundings of the Penthes estate and high-quality infrastructures.

The Center, based on two top-level academic institutions, will play a decisive role in positioning Geneva as a place for thought and expertise on global issues. It will concentrate on activities such as providing expertise and analyses targeting IOs and NGOs, hosting arbitration procedures, international negotiations and seminars.

The State Council will submit the legislative documents necessary for the implementation of the project, and will further define the State's contribution in terms of real estate and funding. The UNIGE and IHEID look forward to their continued collaboration to make this important project for International Geneva a reality..
