Located in the heart of a profoundly international city, the University of Geneva enjoys a strong international reputation and envisions itself as a global institution. Strengthening the international character of UNIGE is one of the 7 key objectives defined in the University's strategic plan "A Vision for 2020".

The vision of UNIGE as an international institution is expressed, among others, by numerous collaborative links in place with other universities around the world. In the area of research, relationships can be either on an individual basis, or take the form of collaboration agreements which frame more long-term activities and engage the whole institution. Through its strategic partnerships, UNIGE reinforces its links with selected partner institutions.

As far as teaching is concerned, international collaboration takes the form of faculty and student exchange within programs such as ERASMUS, bilateral agreements , academic exchange networks and joint programs.

The University of Geneva also has close links with the international and non-governmental institutions present in Geneva, including through teaching and research programs as well as targeted collaborative initiatives with Geneva's IOs and NGOs.
