Research Interest / Recherches

Tabea Ihsane holds a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Geneva, where she has been a post-doc since December 2006, devoted both to research and teaching. In 1998, she was a visiting student at Bangor University (formerly University College of North Wales) and in 2001-2002 a visiting scholar in the Department of Linguistics and Philosophy at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T) (Cambridge, MA), on a fellowship from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).

Tabea’s expertise lies in the syntax and the syntax-semantics interface of nominal expressions, in a cross-linguistic perspective. In addition to her monograph on the structure of French indefinites (Benjamins 2008), she has published several articles in international journals and book chapters in prestigious volumes gathering papers of outstanding linguists.

Further interests of hers comprise the grammar of special registers such as diaries, a topic on which she has collaboratively published with Prof. Liliane Haegeman. The History of English is also part of Tabea’s interests. Currently, she is investigating the loss of verb movement and adverb placement in Middle and Early Modern English, as a senior researcher on a project funded by the SNSF, directed by Prof. Eric Haeberli. In addition, she recently turned her attention to Second Language Acquisition. Her objective is to investigate the acquisition of articles.
