Joan Grandjean is a PhD candidate and Assistant at the Arabic Unit, University of Geneva.
He started a PhD thesis in 2017, entitled “What if? Imagining the History of Contemporary Art through Arab ‘Futurisms’” that studies the use of science fiction in the Arab contemporary art scene. He is a founding member of Manazir – Swiss Platform for the Study of Visual Arts, Architecture and Heritage in the MENA Region – and part of Manazir Journal’s editorial team; he is also a member of the academic association Le Laboratoire des Imaginaires and of the research group Arts Visuels du Maghreb et du Moyen-Orient, 19e-21e siècle (ARVIMM).
He presently works on a research project about donations by countries of the MENA region to international organizations in Geneva, funded by the Fondation Boninchi.
Formation Académique
Janvier-Décembre 2020 : Collaborateur scientifique à l'Unité d'arabe de l'Université de Genève financé par la Fondation Boninchi.
Depuis juin 2017 : Doctorant sous la direction de la professeure Silvia Naef (Université de Genève). Intitulé de la thèse : "Et si… des 'futurismes' arabes en histoire de l’art ?"
2015-2013 – Master Recherche Histoire des Arts (Université Bretagne Loire Rennes 2). Mémoire intitulé « L’archive dans la mouvance des images » (sous la direction de Christophe David, mention Très bien).
