About Geneva's Philosophy Department

The University of Geneva's Philosophy Department is one of the most active departments in the Faculty of Humanities and the University more generally. It plays a major role in the revival of Philosophy in Switzerland.

The Department is a central partner of the Centre for Affective Sciences, one of the 20 National Centres for Competence in Research, and the Medicine Faculty'y Bio-medical Ethics Institute. It also fosters close collaboration with the nearby Universities of Fribourg, Lausanne and Neuchâtel in doctoral training, through the Western Switzerland Doctoral School in Philosophy.

dialectica, the first Philosophy Journal in Continental Europe, is by large edited by members of Geneva's Department.

The Philosophy Department has also been extremely active and successful in securing third-party funding. Since the year 2000, over 35 mio CHF have been raised for its many research projects. Always forward-thinking, the Department is today a dynamic research and teaching environment at the forefront of Europe's philosophical research.
