Episteme, Université de Genève John Greco's Episteme lectures on Epistemic Normativity

Geneva, april 22th-24th 2008

John Greco (Saint Louis), a leading theorist in virtue epistemology, will visit the department of philosophy at the University of Geneva for one week, on april 22-26th, 2008. He will give a series of lectures on Epistemic Normativity, and take part in a discussion on virtue epistemology. Following the lectures, an international conference on Epistemic Agency will be held, during which John Greco will give another talk and which will include a symposium on his work.

The lectures are organised by Prof. P. Engel's Episteme group at Department of Philosophy, University of Geneva, within the FNS project on Knowledge, Reasons and Norms.

Attendance to the lectures is free and open to all. The lectures will be given in English.

Venue

The lectures will take place at Uni Dufour (U300, tuesday) Uni Bastions (B105, B108, B101). Uni Dufour is the administrative University Building located rue Général-Dufour, room U300 is on the third floor. Details and a photo of the building here. Uni Bastions is the main university building located at 2 rue de Candolle, rooms B105, B108 and B101 are on the first floor. There is a photo of the building here. To get there from the airport, the simplest and quickest way is to take a train. Follow the sign "Geneve - Centre" at the airport train station and take any train, they all trains stop at the main train station (first stop). Then take the tram as indicated below. (40 min, ticket 3 CHF or 2eur to be bought at the airport train station. The ticket covers the tram journey as well.)

To get there from the train station, take trams 13 or 15 direction Palettes to Plainpalais. (10 mins, ticket 3 CHF or 2eur to be bought at the tram stop.)

To move around in Geneva, the simplest way by far is to use public transportation - and if you have booked an hotel in Geneva, they have to provide you with a free day pass for all public transportation, do not forget to ask for it. The public transport company (TPG) have a useful route planner.The locations of the bus and tramway stops around the department and the main university building (Bastions) are indicated on the following plan, which is downloadable as gif, pdf and jpg (courtesy eidos!).
