The future Framework programme for research and
innovation (2014-2020)

FP7 enters in its final phase with record budgets in 2012-2013,
while its successor programme HORIZON 2020 is already in preparation ...
On 30th November 2011 the European Commission presented its proposal for
Horizon2020, for approval by the European Council and Parliament by
autumn 2013.
The new programme will include some major innovations, building upon
3 main pillars and a budget of about 85 billion euros:
- Excellent science: mainly bottom-up, fundamental research (ERC, Marie
Curie, etc.)
- Industrial leadership: more industry/SME-oriented research
for enabling technologies (ICT, Biotech, etc.)
- Societal challenges: society-oriented research in some priority areas (Health,
Climate, Transport, etc.)
