Horizon 2020 - European Research Council

The European Research Council (ERC) supports basic, interdisciplinary and exploratory research, following a bottom-up investigator-driven approach along 5 grant schemes:

  • ERC Starting Grants, for researchers 2-7* years after PhD award;
  • ERC Consolidator Grants, for researchers 7-12* years after PhD award;
  • ERC Advanced Investigator Grants; for experienced and confirmed researchers;
  • ERC Synergy Grants, for 3-4 researchers tackling together major scientific challenges;
  • ERC Proof of Concept Grants, for Starting-Consolidator-Advanced grantees who whould like to establish the innovation potential of an ERC-project outcome (technical validation, market research, IPR, etc.).

Next deadlines

  • 18 October 2016: ERC Starting Grants,
  •  4 October 2016 / 19 January 2017 / 25 April 2017 / 5 September 2017 : Proof of Concept Grants
  •  9 February 2017 : ERC Consolidator Grants (published on 20 October 2016)
  • 31 August 2017 : ERC Advanced Grants (published on 16 May 2016)

Full Swiss participation to ERC

Switzerland participates as "associated country" to ERC calls which means that all costs must be requested to the ERC.

 For the years 2017-2020, the Swiss status shall be confirmed by end 2016.
