Synthesis
The creation of
organic functional systems is an excellent, fruitful exercise in
multistep organic synthesis with a meaning. The distinguishing
ability of chemists to create, in principle, any new molecule from
scratch is practiced and refined. As an example, the
straightforward synthesis of initiators and propagators for
panchromatic SOSIP photosystems from small, commercially available
starting materials is outlined below.
