NEAR is the acronym for "Network for Environmental Assessment and Remediation in aquatic system". The network has been initiated in 1997 by Prof. Janusz Dominik and Richard L. Thomas, and supported by the SCOPES programme (Scientific co-operation between Eastern Europe and Switzerland) financed by the Swiss National Science Foundation.
Goals of the network include:
The development of a scientific network between Central and Eastern European countries and Switzerland for teaching and research in natural environmental sciences
The development of a curriculum in natural environmental sciences, particularly focused on aquatic ecosystems.
The organization of field-based teaching for advanced students |
