WMAPSWhere does the Universe come from? What is its history? Where is it going? To what forces is it subjected ? Here are just some of the questions that preoccupy theorists. Like theoretical physics itself, there are almost no limits to them!

From cosmology to theoretical particle physics via chaotic and unpredictable systems — not to mention models for describing the behaviour of various materials — theoretical physics tackles the most dizzying problems and handles the most subtle mathematics with great skill.

A vast number of scientists are currently working on finding the theoretical key that will reconcile quantum physics — the physics of the infinitely small — with the physics of general relativity — the infinitely large — all wrapped up in a “Theory of Everything”. Several different hypotheses, including superstring theory, are trying to make this link.
