Geology and Ore Deposits of the South Western USA
In summer 2010, three of our members joined an excursion organized by the SEG Student Chapter of the ETH Zürich to learn about the geology and ore deposits of the South Western USA. Participants from the Geological Survey of Spain and the University of Oregon completed the group of about 30 people. During the 14 days
lasting excursion we visited several different types of world class deposits, including the Carlintype
Goldstrike deposit, the Bingham Canyon porphyry‐Cu mine, Mother Lode Au veins in California and the whole porphyry Cu system at Yerginton. Our special thanks goes to Ingo Steinberger and Christoph A. Heinrich, both from ETHZ, responsible for the logistical and geological/scientific aspects of the excursion, respectively.
