Opening for a post-doctoral position at University of Geneva

The Department of Mineralogy, University of Geneva, offers a post-doctoral position in isotope geochemistry and geochronology. The employment is in the framework of a research project of the Swiss National Science Foundation (FNS) to investigate the pre-Mesozoic evolution of the Andean continental margin in Perú. The task of the post-doc will be: (1) to help in the installation of a new laboratory for isotope geochemistry and U-Pb geochronology at University of Geneva, planned to be operational in fall 2003; (2) to develop his own research program looking at terrane boundaries in the pre-Mesozoic Andean crust along two transects in central and northern Perú using radiogenic isotopes in plutonic and volcanic rocks of Cretaceous to Carboniferous age; (3) to help in the supervision of a PhD project in the Pataz Batholith in northern Perú starting in fall 2003. The selected candidate should be able to plan and carry out the field campaign in Perú with the support of local and Geneva-based experts, and should have experience in radiogenic isotope geochemistry and thermal ionisation mass spectrometry. Knowledge of Andean geology would be very helpful.

Salary: ca. CHF 63'000.-/first year

Start: spring - summer 2003
