Activities of the Standing Group

Pioneered by Richard Kimber, the Standing Group of Computer Users has been founded after the Rimini Joint Sessions. Richard Kimber, the first president of the group published a number of newsletters (in paper form).

Due to serious work overload Richard Kimber resigned from the presidency; the group is currently chaired by Eugen Horber and Alan Brier.

A group meeting took place in association with the Annual Joint Sessions of Workshops in Leiden in 1993, with a presentation of the possibilities opening up via the INTERNET. Since then, and in place of a conventional newsletter, the group has maintained gopher server. This makes available access to a number of useful information sources of particular interest to European political scientists. The information available in this way is continually being increased, as time and resources allow, subject to advice received from members of the group. A further presentation of this gopher, and other possibilities for the development of hypertext structures on the INTERNET specifically for political scientists is planned for the next Joint Sessions.

The gopher server, while still functioning, is no longer up to date.
