Workshop contents and objectives

PASW Statistics, also known as SPSS Statistics and IBM SPSS Statistics, is a widely used statistical packages and several Summer School workshops use or assume skills with statistical software, data preparartion and management and basic statistics. The main aim of this 2-day effort is be to brush up/refresh your skills with data management, preparation and analysis (statistics) with SPSS or to learn to use SPSS, if you are familiar with other statistical packages.

Note that in the 2010 Summer School no workshop uses PASW/Statistics (SPSS) although skills with this software are useful to prepare and transform data, as neither AMOS (Software used in the SEM workshop) nor MlWin (used in the multilevel analysis course) provide such facilities. The panel data workshop uses Stata, another statistical package.

During this workshop you will work on your own through a sequence of exercices and we will be around to provide guidance and help you in case of difficulties.

Prerequesites

You should have some background - even rusty - in statistics and data analysis.
