Research

The Department of Translation conducts research in the following areas:

  • Theoretical and practical aspects of specialised translation (especially legal and economic translation)
  • Translation theory: concepts in translation studies ; ethics of professional translation ; philosophy and translation
  • Literary translation; translation criticism
  • Cognitive aspects of the translation process
  • Linguistic aspects of translation: comparative studies for the translator; pragmatics and translation; standard language and the language of translation
  • Teaching English as a foreign language; English as a lingua franca
  • Economics of languages; multilingual communication management

Various studies, including doctoral dissertations, are in progress in these areas.

The Department’s professors lead two research groups: Transius, which specialises in legal and institutional translation, and élf (Observatoire économie langues formation) which focuses on economics, languages and education.
