Management of vacation and overtime


Dear Employees,

Over the past year, the public-health situation has led to the massive implementation of working from home for all employees, disrupting both the work organisation and managerial practices. At the same time, the large number of restrictions — including those related to travel — have shifted individual priorities and lead many employees to postpone their vacation.

The high level of remaining vacation days in 2020 requires to anticipate a significant level of future leaves that could impact the organisation of certain services and/or new postponements of holidays to later undefined dates, according to the evolution of the public-health situation in 2021. This situation, combined with the uncertainties of the pandemic that we are facing, generates a certain fatigue for all of us, which accumulates over the months and weighs on the quality of life and health at work.

It is important to have regular rest periods, especially in these complex times. We would therefore like to draw your attention to the following:

  • In 2021 the usual arrangements will apply for the management of vacation days, in particular the maximum time limit for carrying them forward to 31 August. It is important that the remaining 2020 vacation days are taken before this date.
  • Managers need to plan ahead their teams' 2021 vacation.

Planning tools for managers

We remind you that the diary menu (« agenda menu ») in GDA application allows you to view the absence requests of the employees of a structure, a group or of a particular person. This tool can be useful in vacation planning, can greatly facilitate the planning/validation process and thus provide a good guarantee of continuity of service for the departments concerned.

Reminder of the rules applicable to vacation

The Memento procedures PAT vacation («Vacances PAT») and Management of absences for teaching staff («Gérer les absences du corps enseignant»), set forth all the applicable rules in their chapters concerning the organisation of holidays.
