Key databases

Bibliographies

One of the two key bibliographies (the other is ABELL, see below) in English studies from medieval times to the present, to identify quality critical scholarship (references of books, articles, dissertations) on literature, linguistics, literary theory, film, television, theatre, rhetoric and folklore.

As the MLAIB (see above), this is a key bibliography for English studies, with a similar coverage.

Each entry (on specific authors, literary genres or topics) presents a short introductory article written by experts, followed by detailed and evaluative bibliographies. There are specific modules on American literature, British and Irish literature and Medieval studies. This is a fairly new resource, and some key authors are still missing.

Managed by a network of researchers from Australian universities and the National Library of Australia, this is a very useful database on Australian literature and culture. Covering the period from the end of the 18th century to today, this is mostly a bibliographic database with a range of thematic files as well as some collections available in full text (poems, novels, criticism)

A set of bibliographic and full text databases aimed at medievalists. The International Medieval Bibliography (IMB), produced by the Institute for Medieval Studies in Leeds, is particulary useful. It is only accessible to UNIGE members. Registering with the BGE through this online form (a procedure that needs to be done once only, ISIs connexion) is necessary.

Entries cover the period from 1960 onwards. It indexes critical works and theatrical productions
