Neural mechanisms of emotional response patterning and system synchronization Music and Emotions


I studied mathematics, cognitive science and psychology and obtained a PhD in cognitive neuroscience in 2012 at the University of Geneva in the Laboratory for Behavioral Neurology and Imaging of Cognition (Labnic) and the Interdisciplinary Centre of Affective Sciences (CISA) under the supervision of Prof. Patrik Vuilleumier. The topic of my PhD was to investigate the brain processes of emotions induced by music and their interaction with the processing of musical rhythms.

Current Research

My research interest is based on studying the different phenomena of rhythmic entrainment to music which can involve entrainment of neural processes up to motor actions. The goal of my research is to understand how these processes contribute to the production of musical emotions. Furthermore I am interested in clinical research in neuropsychology and the application of this research on the influence of musical rhythms in patient populations. For my research I use the techniques of neuroimaging (fMRI), neurophysiology and physiological measures (respiration, cardiac activity, eye tracking).
