Emotions and Conflict

conflict.pngHuman interactions often entail conflict - be it on the interpersonal level or on the level of groups formed by cultures or companies. Although conflicts are usually accompanied by strong emotions, the role of emotions in conflict resolution is so far poorly understood. This research focus brings together scientists from different disciplines with practitioners from the field of conflict resolution. The overall aim is to develop a line of research that can be translated and applied to a wide range of conflict settings. The envisaged empirical studies range from behavioral and neuroscientific experiments conducted under controlled laboratory settings, to field studies in conflict areas. Moreover, several workshops are planned to provide a regular platform for discussions between practitioners and scientists.

This project is coordinated at the Swiss Center for Affective Sciences by Dr. Olga Klimecki and Prof. David Sander, in collaboration with experts in mediation Jeremy Lack and François Bogacz, and with a network of colleagues representing key relevant disciplines.
