The Geneva Motivation Lab, directed by Guido Gendolla, is part of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Science (FPSE) at the University of Geneva. Our research and teaching projects comprise basic processes of motivation and self-regulation and applied issues like health psychology and the application of motivation research. The largest part of our research methods is experimental and focuses on the psychophysiology of motivation, especially cardiovascular processes involved in effort mobilization. Moreover, we study the role of implicit and explicit affective processes and personality in human motivation.

Simon Hug (PhD University of Michigan) taught at the University of Texas at Austin, the University of St. Gallen, and the University of Zurich before being appointed to the University of Geneva. He teaches in the fields of methods and international relations. His research interests include political institutions and civil wars, parliamentary behavior, and international institutions.

Our Lab is interested in affective processes such as emotion reactivity and regulation in children, adolescents, and young adults with and without developmental disabilities. The ultimate goal of our research is to better understand mechanisms linked to mental health in these populations from an affective science perspective.

Our research focuses on the way individuals interact with hierarchies, perceive, and communicate. We use the immersive technology of virtual reality and social sensing to investigate interpersonal behavior.
