General Information

Michele Ombrato obtained a BA in Philosophy at the University of Turin and an MA in Philosophy (with a focus on Philosophy of Mind, Logics and Metaphysics) at the University of Geneva. He is currently working on his Ph.D. dissertation under the supervision of Julien Deonna. The purpose of his research is to provide an analysis of the relation between affective phenomena and attention and, relatedly, address various issues connected to the persistence of emotion experience. His main areas of interest are Philosophy and Psychology of Emotions, Ontology of Mind and Mental Action.

Current Research

He is currentily pursuing three related lines of inquiry. The first one focusses on the relation between attentional engagement and the occurrence and persistence of different affective phenomena. The second one focusses on the relation between attentional engagement during emotion and apprehension of value. The third one addresses the issue of the compatibility between a construal of emotions as attention-dependent phenomena and the notion of affective dynamics. He is also interested in exploring how a theory of emotions as attention-dependent phenomena may allow addressing the issues surrounding the notion of responsibility for one's emotions.
