Le boson de Higgs et notre vie
Le CERN est le plus grand laboratoire de recherche en physique des particules du monde. Il exploite actuellement l’accélérateur le plus puissant jamais construit, le grand collisionneur de hadrons (LHC), un anneau de 27 km situé à 100 mètres sous terre, qui s’étend de part et d’autre de la frontière franco-suisse, près de Genève. En juillet 2012, deux ans seulement après le début des opérations, les expériences ATLAS et CMS au LHC ont annoncé la découverte d’une nouvelle particule, le boson de Higgs.
A l’occasion de cette conférence, Fabiola Gianotti abordera l’importance de cette découverte, ainsi que les principaux aspects de la mission du CERN : recherche scientifique, innovation technologique, formation et éducation, et collaboration pacifique entre scientifiques du monde entier.
Cet événement s’inscrit également dans le cadre de la 13e European Conference on Applied Superconductivity, EUCAS.

The Higgs boson and our life
CERN is the largest laboratory in the world for research in particle physics. It currently runs the most powerful accelerator ever built, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), a 27 km ring 100 m underground that criss-crosses the French Swiss border close to Geneva. In July 2012, only two years after the beginning of operation, the ATLAS and CMS experiments at the LHC announced the discovery of a new particle, the Higgs boson.
During this conference, Fabiola Gianotti will discuss the importance of this discovery, together with the main strands of CERN’s mission: scientific research, technological innovation, training and education, and peaceful collaboration of scientists from all over the world.
This event is also part of the 13th European Conference on Applied Superconductivity, EUCAS.
