Les personnes les plus riches de la planète (« les 1 % ») détiennent la moitié de la richesse mondiale. Comment en sommes-nous arrivés là? Quels types de fractures—économiques, politiques, culturelles, sociales, spatiales, environnementales—cette concentration extrême de richesse entraîne-t-elle? De quels moyens disposent les 99 % pour effectuer un changement progressiste dans le contexte actuel, où ceux qui sont au pouvoir œuvrent pour préserver les systèmes dont ils bénéficient?

Cette table ronde réunira des intellectuels, influenceurs d’opinions et militants de réputations internationales pour discuter de l'influence grandissante du pouvoir des élites et de l'aggravation des inégalités mondiales, et les actions qui peuvent être entreprises pour contrer ces tendances.

Engines of Inequality? Elites, Politics and Power

Today, the richest 1% of the population holds half of the world’s wealth. How did we arrive at this alarming state of affairs? What kinds of fractures has this extreme concentration of wealth wrought, be they economic, political, cultural, social, spatial, or environmental? And what space is there for progressive change in a context where those in power act to preserve the systems from which they benefit?

The roundtable will bring together thought leaders, influencers and advocates for change to discuss the growing influence of elite power and the deepening of global inequalities, and what can be done to counteract these trends.
