Automne 2023
Theatre Forum / Theatre of the Oppressed
This year, we’ll be exploring the techniques encompassed in the Theatre of the Oppressed, in particular Theatre Forum.
What is Theatre Forum? It starts with a short scene which ends badly. The audience is then invited to watch the scene again, except that this time, at any point, they can clap their hands and shout “stop”. At that point, they can come on stage, take the place of one of the characters, and show us what they could have done differently in order to achieve a better ending to the scene.
Over the course of the workshop, participants will explore various techniques in terms of scene construction, improvisation, getting to know each other, running theatre forums as the joker, and much more.
As the workshop evolves, we’ll present individual theatre forums that we create to wider audiences in a series of small events that we’ll run as a team.
Content/ Autonomy
This year, the goal of the workshop is that, as a group, you develop the artistic, technical, administrative and communicational skills that allow you to carry the whole artistic project together: sound creation / choreographies / writing / directing / scenography / communication / production / acting / dancing / logistics… and so many other things.
From early on in the process, my intention is to leave you one-hour per session without my physical presence during which you can develop this autonomy through trial and error, be it through games, exercises, discussion, rehearsal, scene improvements, or anything else we decide together.
Objectives and skills
Joining the English language theatre group will give you the opportunity, through an inclusive creative process, to discover a wide range of theatrical traditions and explore a variety of different forms of expression while collectively cocreating an interdisciplinary play involving dance, theatre, music, and other scenic arts.
