Our Group

Our group focuses on Experimental Astro/particle Physics. We are interested in Detectors R&D and in their application also in other fields. We have an increasing interest in medical imaging and medical physics in general.

Research Activities

The Cherenkov Telescope Array Observatory (CTAO) is the next generation ground-based instrument for gamma-ray astronomy at very-high energies. With tenths telescopes located in the northern and southern hemispheres,

he Large Size Telescope (LST) is one of the three classes of telescopes to be featured CTAO. The prototype of the LST, called LST-1, finished construction and was inaugurated on October 10th, 2018. LST-1 is currently in the commissioning phase in the CATO northern site  at the Observatorio del Roque de los Muchachos on the Canary island of La Palma.

LHAASO is the world largest and most sensitive  Extended Array shower for studying gamma and cosmic rays, in operation at 4500 m on the M.t Haizi in the Sichuan region. Since the start of its operation,  LHAASO is providing significant result in the field.

It is composed by a Water Cherenkov array (WCDA), a surface particle array KM2A and a telescope array WFCTA.

UNIGE is member of LHAASO since its beginning and has provide some technologies for the  WFCTA.

The project POSICS ( POsition-sensitive SIPMs Compact and Scalable Camera ) aims at the realisation of an intraoperative camera for Radio Guided surgery. It has been founded in the frame of the H2020 ATTRACT framework. The project is carried on by UNIGE in collaboration with teams in HUG and the research center FBK ( Fondazione Bruno Kessler)

Our group has a wide experience in experimental physics with a long standing background in particle and astroparticle detectors.

Research& Development & Innovation is at the core of our research interest and try span over many different field. Join us in one of our endeavour.
