Dear colleagues,

We are delighted to invite you to the 2nd Symposium „Understanding emerging viral diseases and their public health impact“, hosted by the Geneva Centre for Emerging Viral Diseases.

Within a short time frame, research on emerging viruses has changed from a small, rather exotic niche within the virology field to a topic of major public health interest, also raising tremendous attention in the community and in the public. The Geneva Centre for Emerging Viral Diseases is dedicated to serve at the interface between fundamental research, translational, clinical and diagnostic virology with a close connection to public & global health.  This is also the mission that we want to reflected in our symposium:  In 12 session and with a total of 30 speakers from more than 12 countries, we aim to cover the complete picture of this exciting topic of virus emergence, and the challenges that arise from it. Our program is enriched with clinical cases, real-life scenarios, lessons from the field, but also specific basic research findings on emerging viruses of high interest, all delivered by international top experts in the field.

The symposium is of interest for a broad range of health specialists working in the field of emerging viruses, such as clinicians, researchers from the Life Science field and public health specialists, PhD and medical students, as well as policy makers and organizations.

We are very much looking forward to welcome you in Geneva to enjoy the first days of spring in our cosmopolitan city, located at the beautiful Lac léman, home of more than 190 nationalities & more than 35 international organizations, to meet colleagues, get inspired and stimulate exchange and collaborations around this exciting topic.
