The payment of the registration fees can be made in several installments. If registration fees are not paid before the beginning of the course, access to the programme will not be allowed.
A limited number of scholarships - for tuition fees only - is available for this programme.
Objectives
In terms of knowledge:
• Understand the nature of humanitarian work and its ecosystem
• Understand the foundations of humanitarianism
In terms of skills:
• Critically analyse the concepts and practices of humanitarian action
• Build relevant arguments regarding these concepts and practices
• Define a well-argued positioning
In terms of behaviour/soft skills:
• Provide constructive feedbacks and criticisms

Professional from other sectors who wishes to deepen his understanding of the contemporary humanitarian action
Post-graduate student with internship experience who wants to work in humanitarian action

Programme
The course is divided in five modules:
- M1: Humanitarianisms
- M2: Contexts, Actions and Consequences
- M3: Revisiting Vulnerability and Needs
- M4: Humanitarian Governance, Norms and Principles
- M5: The Humanitarians
The Diploma also includes the writing of a final dissertation.
The process includes a series of five online workshops organised in December 2020 and January 2021 to help the participants design their dissertation project.
The DAS dissertation must be presented by May 2021.

The core curriculum covers the following topics:
- History of humanitarianism
- Legal framework of humanitarian action
- Geopolitics and humanitarian action
- Values, ethics and moral problems
- From emergency to development ?
- Sociology of actors in humanitarian action
- Health in humanitarian emergencies
- Political economy of humanitarian action
- Vulnerability: evolving concept and new challenges
- Anthropology and intercultural approach in humanitarian action
- Communication and humanitarian action
- People management and humanitarian action

The DAS is taught in English. However, students are offered the alternative to take written tests and write their Diploma final paper in French.

Admission criteria
- Hold a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent university degree, plus a minimum of five years of work experience in the humanitarian, social or development sector
- Hold a Master’s degree or an equivalent university degree, plus a minimum of two years of work experience in the humanitarian, social or development sector
- Post-graduate students with internship experience who wants to work in humanitarian action
- Excellent command of English. Students whose mother tongue is not English, who do not have secondary or post-secondary qualifications taught in English or who have not spent a minimum of one year studying full-time at a university level in English (please provide transcripts certifying that courses were delivered in English), must provide a certificate to prove their mastery of English (TOEFL/IELTS/CPE/CAE)
