How to apply
To study at the University of Geneva (UNIGE) and be admitted to the Faculty of Translation and Interpreting (FTI), you must:

Fulfil UNIGE's enrolment requirements and hold a university degree

Fulfil the FTI's admission conditions
What are the admission requirements?
You must meet the following requirements:
Qualifications:
You must hold a:
- BA in multilingual communication from the FTI
- BA from another university in multilingual communications, translation, modern languages or a related field of study
- Another university diploma that is deemed to be equivalent
Language skills:
- You must have at least a C1 level in English and French according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
- You must have a C2 level in your native language (Arabic, English, French, German, Italian or Spanish) according to the CEFR.
Your university diploma or any other language diploma can be proof of your language skills.
Your application file
Your file will be reviewed by a committee in our Faculty. You will be informed of their decision no later than 5 June 2026.

How do I apply?
- You will need to prepare all the required documents as described on UNIGE's applications platform (see the "Required documents" section).
- You will need to prepare the required documents for the FTI's Applications Committee.
- CV
- A written description of around 400 words of your linguistic background, including your education and experience in your languages
- A letter of motivation of around 400 words, which includes why you are interested in the programme, what your career plans are and/or what your research interests in the field are

A copy of your transcript and any diplomas already obtained

Any certifications for your language level in English and French (if French or English is not your native language)

Apply online to register for the FTI entrance exam and apply to enrol at UNIGE.

An interview may be required to verify certain skills
- We accept applications from 15 january to 28 february 2026

for applicants with nationalities that are required to have a visa for a stay of over 90 days (irrespective of your current place of residence, unless you hold a Swiss residence permit that is valid past 30 April)

for applicants who hold a BA from a university outside of Switzerland.

- We accept applications from 15 january to 30 april 2026
- for applicants who do not need to apply for a visa to stay in Switzerland
AND
- who hold a BA from a Swiss university.
The tuition fee is CHF 500 per semester of study for both Swiss and foreign students.
