Accessibility and sign language
During the last few years, the department has been working in the areas of accessibility (web accessibility in particular) and sign language. It develops a web platform for developing, compiling, and running rule-based speech to sign language translation applications. Since 2017, the department coordinates a research project in collaboration with ZHAW to propose and implement a Swiss Research Centre for Barrier-free Communication, funded by SwissUniversities.
