Guillaume Guez Maillard is an international lawyer and scholar in international law and the law of international organizations, teaching in France and Switzerland. His research covers various areas of public international law, including international dispute settlement, international environmental law and investment law. He is the author of a number of academic articles and contributions and regularly speaks at international conferences. His doctoral thesis addresses the "Inherent Powers of International Courts and Tribunals at the End of their Mandate" under the supervision of Professor Laurence Boisson de Chazournes (University of Geneva) and Professor Hervé Ascensio (Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University). He is leading the project on "Cross-Perspectives on Atmospheric Water" project, funded by the Collège de France. This groundbreaking project examines a ubiquitous yet legally unregulated resource: atmospheric water (vapor, clouds, precipitation). In light of emerging geoengineering technologies (such as cloud seeding and fog harvesting), he explores the historical, cultural, and legal dynamics to develop legal principles ensuring equitable and sustainable management of this resource. He also contributed, as a research associate, to the project “The International Judicial Function Under Pressure: Do Courts and Tribunals Go Off the Rails?”. This project compiled an inventory of critiques regarding judicial overreach and a catalogue of corrective measures aimed at regulating international courts and tribunals more strictly. The study then assessed the validity of these criticisms and the compatibility of the proposed measures with the proper exercise of the judicial function. In addition, he is involved in international proceedings before the International Court of Justice, the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea, and investment arbitration tribunals. Previously, he served as a law clerk to Judge Mohamed Bennouna at the International Court of Justice. Guillaume Guez Maillard works in French and English and has a strong command of Spanish. | |
