The Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) and the Commission for Technology and Innovation (CTI) continuously monitor the changing context of research and innovation in Switzerland. They found that some interesting projects could be lost when they fell between the types of encouragement given by these two institutions. In the context of the 2017-2020 FRI message, the SNSF and CTI were commissioned by the Federal Council - on their own initiative - to jointly develop the Bridge Special…

We are seeking a candidate with a proven international scientific reputation, with a wide range of skills and knowledge, including a very good understanding of quantum optics and quantum information physics. Expertise in hybrid quantum systems (such as NV centers, ultra-cold atoms or trapped ions, quantum memories, superconducting qubits, or opto-mechanical systems) is desired. Moreover, the candidate’s research should combine fundamental physics aspects and applications in quantum information…

Our recent Quantum Science and Technology paper on the European quantum technologies flagship programme. Here, we sum up the history leading to the quantum technologies flagship programme and outline its envisioned goals and structure. We also give an overview of the strategic research agenda for quantum communication, which the flagship will pursue during its 10-year runtime

Heralded photon amplification (HPA) is a teleportation-based protocol that has been proposed as a means to overcome transmission loss for DI-QKD. In a recent Quantum Science and Technology paper we show how HPA for path entangled states and characterise the entanglement before and after loss by exploiting a recently developed displacement-based detection scheme. We demonstrate that by exploiting HPA we are able to reliably maintain high fidelity entangled states over loss-equivalent distances…

Our recent paper in Physical Review Applied demonstrates a new quantum random number generator which is simple to implement and achieves high bit rates, yet requires almost no trust in the devices used, leading to strongly improved security.
