Saurav Devashish

 

 

After completing a Bachelors (B.A.Hons.) and Masters (M.A) in History from University of Delhi, Devashish Saurav pursued a graduate degree (Post-graduate, M.sc.) in Heritage Conservation and Management at the Wildlife Institute of India, UNESCO C2C. He joined several field excursions and training programs at cultural and natural heritage sites. Devashish completed a masters dissertation work titled "Storied Landscape: A Study of the Ecological Narratives of the Bhotiyas".

His research interest is in exploring how communities live on the land, and maintains relationship with the landscape. He is interested in exploring the human/non-human interactions by focusing upon the resource use and resource management patterns.

Previously, he has worked with the Bhotiyas of Uttarakhand, Gujjars and Meenas of Rajasthan, and at archaeological site of Vangchhia (Mizoram).

Devashish loves to walk on trails observing the birds, butterflies and other insects. He has an elementary knowledge of Persian and can speak Spanish as well.

 

Research interests

Ecological & environmental anthropology, water, ideas of nature, religion and landscape, indigenous communities, environmental justice and sustainability, state and policies, multispecies ethnography, everyday life and festivals, climate change, Himalayas, Asia.
