Titulaire d'un doctorat en Science, politique et gestion de l'environnement de l'Université de Californie à Berkeley, Jörg Balsiger est professeur associé au Département de géographie et environnement de l'Université de Genève et à l'Institut des sciences de l'environnement (ISE). Il assure la direction du Pôle Gouvernance de l’Environnement et Développement Territorial (PGEDT).

Jörg Balsiger is Associate Professor at the Department of Geography and Environment (Geneva School of Social Sciences) and the Institute for Environmental Sciences. He currently serves as Director of the Hub for Environmental Governance and Territorial Development.

Axes de recherche

Spécialiste reconnu de la gouvernance régionale de l’environnement et du développement durable, ses activités récentes comprennent la recherche fondamentale et appliquée en matière de coopération régionale de l’environnement (par ex. via IEADB), gouvernance transfrontalière en régions de montagne (par ex. par la priorisation de thèmes de recherche), et éducation en en vue du développement durable (voir numéro spécial de MRD) ; la promotion de l’activité scientifique à l’échelle nationale (par ex. FoLAP), régionale (par ex. NEMOR) et globale (par ex. en tant que présdient de la Mountain Research Initiative) ; et de renforcement de capacités institutionnelles, notamment dan sle Caucase (voir SNC-mt et Sustainable Caucasusus). 

 

As an internationally recognized environmental governance and sustainable development expert, his recent activities include basic and applied research on regional environmental cooperation (e.g. through IEADB), transboundary mountain governance (e.g. through research agenda setting), and education for sustainable development (see the special issue of MRD); science promotion and advocacy at the national (e.g. FoLAP), regional (e.g. NEMOR), and global level (e.g. as Chair of the Mountain Research Initiative); and institutional capacity building for regional scientific and educational cooperation, with a particular focus on the Caucasus (see SNC-mt  and Sustainable Caucasus).
