Developers wishing to (re)construct buildings must first receive a building permit. This can take 2 to 3 years. In France, the "Abbé Pierre" association offers homeless people to come and live in the dwellings that will later be demolished. This saves costs for the owners of the land, as they no longer need to protect it from potential squatters. I find this system really ingenious, because everyone wins. It's an association made up of volunteers that manages this, and it would be nice if the state took over and made this kind of practice official.

Les promoteur·trice·s souhaitant (re)construire des immeubles doivent d'abord recevoir un permis de construction. Cette attente peut durer 2 à 3 ans. En France, l'association "Abbé Pierre", propose aux personnes sans domicile fixe de venir habiter dans les habitations qui se feront détruire par la suite. Cela permet d'éviter des coûts pour les propriétaires du terrain, car il·elle·s n'ont plus besoin de le protéger de potentiel·le·s squatteur·trice·s. Je trouve ce système vraiment ingénieux, car tout le monde y gagne. C'est une association constituée de bénévoles qui gère cela, et ça serait chouette que l'Etat prenne le relai, et normralise ce genre de pratique.
