Educational Innovation at GFRI II

A unique pedagogical method was developed by Professor Kerstin Preuschoff, to challenge students to communicate their learnings through a short science film.

This innovative teaching practice aims to give students greater ownership of the learning process. Students select a topic of their choice to study within the fields of Neuroeconomics and Neurofinance. From their scientific summary, a few key messages are extracted to communicate to the public. With the help of filmmakers, the students create a short film about their topic. These chosen messages and resulting short films must be understandable by non-experts, scientifically accurate, and engaging.

The project will be implemented in the Introduction to Neuroeconomics and Neurofinance, and Psychology in Finance courses for the Master and Ph.D. programs.

Kerstin Preuschoff is a multi-disciplinary scientist and educator with a passion for communicating science across disciplines and audiences. She first studied electrical engineering in Berlin before obtaining her PhD in computation and neural systems from Caltech. She is currently an associate professor of neurofinance at the University of Geneva. Her research includes all aspects of decision-making - from the neuroscience behind it, to its impact on financial markets. Her primary research focus is the neural basis of decision making under risk and combines theoretical and experimental ap- proaches from neuroscience, financial economics, and psychology.
