Sebastian Engelke joins the GSEM

Sebastian Engelke obtained his Ph.D. in mathematics, with honors, from the University of Göttingen in 2013. Then, he continued his career as researcher and lecturer at the Faculty of Business and Economics (HEC) of the University of Lausanne and at l’Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL) where he obtained an Ambizione grant from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF).

His research focuses on the risk assessment of extreme events and the Data Science. Sebastian Engelke's publications have appeared in such prestigious journals as the Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, Biometrika and the Annals of Applied Statistics.

At the University of Geneva, Sebastian Engelke will be mainly involved in the Bachelor of Economics and Management, the Master in Statistics, the Master in Business Analytics and the Complementary Certificate in Applied Statistics of the GSEM. His arrival will strengthen the training offer and skills of the Research Center for Statistics and the GSEM in Big Data, Data Science and Computational Statistics.
