GSEM researchers engage in the new Data Science Competence Center

Launched in September, this Center aims to encourage interdisciplinary exchanges around data processing within the UNIGE research community

Under the annual theme "Epidemics and (Big) Data", the Center organized its launch session on September 4 with many members of the academic community in attendance, including GSEM Professors Diego Kuonen and Maria-Pia Victoria-Feser, as well as Dr. Marta Pittavino.

This new Center was created to foster interdisciplinary exchanges around data processing within the academic community. It aims to federate skills and initiatives in data science, with the aim, through transversality, of promoting the emergence of innovative research, and of supporting an informed transformation of scientific culture in the era of big data.

The launching session of the Center provided an opportunity to initiate this collective reflection, by carrying out an overview of the projects and initiatives carried out by the University's scientific community in connection with the annual theme. Each year, the Center intends to lead a collective reflection on the deepening of a particular theme.

Help researchers treat their research data

Throughout the year, the Center will provide services to experts, researchers, and students. In particular, interdisciplinary meetings will be organized to allow researchers to share concrete problems with data science experts. The first of these "Data Science Clinics" meeting will take place on Monday 12 October at 12:15 pm, with the participation of Professors Stéphane Guerrier and Maria-Pia Victoria-Feser.
