Johannes Boehm joins the GSEM as Full Professor

The University of Geneva appointed Johannes Boehm as Full Professor of International Economics at the Geneva School of Economics and Management, effective 1 August 2026. Within the GSEM, he will join the Institute of Economics and Econometrics.

Johannes Boehm holds a PhD in Economics from the London School of Economics, awarded in 2014. An internationally recognized economist, his research and teaching span the fields of international trade, industrial development, economic growth, macroeconomics, and environmental economics. His work focuses in particular on the role of trade and trade networks in growth processes, as well as on policies that support the development of industrial capabilities and strengthen economic resilience in the face of geopolitical risks and climate-related challenges.

Johannes Boehm is also an affiliated researcher at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in London and the Centre for Economic Performance (CEP) at the London School of Economics. Prior to joining the University of Geneva, he had been a professor at the Geneva Graduate Institute (IHEID) since 2024, following a faculty appointment at Sciences Po Paris. Throughout his career, he has also held visiting positions at several leading universities and business schools, including Princeton University, Harvard University, and INSEAD.

His areas of expertise include international trade, globalization, development and cooperation policies, emerging economies, competition and growth, international investment, monetary policy, and environmental governance. Through his research, Johannes Boehm contributes to advancing understanding of contemporary economic challenges related to changes in global trade, the climate transition, and the resilience of economies to international shocks.
