Niels Nijdam receives the Swiss Network for International Studies – International Geneva Academic Paper Award
Senior Lecturer Niels Nijdam has received the 2025 International Geneva Academic Paper Award from the Swiss Network for International Studies (SNIS) for the article “TARA 2.0 for Connected and Automated Vehicles”, co-authored with former GSEM members Anastasija Collen, Meriem Benyahya and Teri Lenard.
Founded in 2008 by the Canton of Geneva and the Swiss Confederation, the Swiss Network for International Studies (SNIS) promotes research and academic collaboration in international studies across Switzerland. The award recognises high‑quality, policy‑relevant academic research with findings applicable to the work of international organisations.
The awarded paper introduces TARA 2.0, an enhanced framework addressing cybersecurity and data privacy challenges in connected and automated vehicles. Applied to a Level 4 automated vehicle, it strengthens privacy considerations, accounts for vehicle autonomy, and improves risk assessment practices. The SNIS committee highlighted the paper’s relevance to international organisations working on transport safety, cybersecurity, data protection and AI governance.
Niels Nijdam is a Senior Lecturer and Researcher at the Research Institute for Statistics and Information Science, specialising in cybersecurity, privacy, and intelligent connected systems.
