Two members of the Geneva School of Economics and Management have received the Subside Tremplin 2022 prize from the Equality & Diversity Department of the University of Geneva. The award allows for a temporary leave of absence to advance in one's career.

GSEM Ph.D. candidate in Economics Federica Braccioli's research interest is in political economy with a focus on the institutional role of organized crime. She studies how organized crime substitutes the state in enforcing contracts, and her research aims to highlight the importance of a well-functioning civil judicial system and suggest a possible complementarity with the penal justice system to reduce the presence of organized crime in the territory.

Alexandra Telychko, a Lecturer at the Institute of Management, focuses her research on innovation in merger control. Competition authorities have been interested in a merger’s impact on prices and output. Recently, they have begun to look at the impact on innovation, both for the firms involved and their competitors. Alexandra's research aims to determine which innovation measures constitute a competitive standard and which are the best practices for all stakeholders.

Women are underrepresented in academic research. The Subside Tremplin program empowers female researchers by releasing recipients from certain duties for one semester by financing a replacement. This offers an opportunity to have the time to develop their career and academic profile through enriching their research portfolio, writing articles, finalizing their thesis, or benefitting from a period spent abroad. In addition, the female researchers are assigned a professor as a mentor.

Previous recipients from the GSEM include Ursa Bernardic and Yuming Zhang (2021); Monika Avila Marquez (2020), and Katarzyna Reluga (2019).
