Master in Global Studies (MAGS)

 Students who already have a Master can apply for 3 semesters or a 90 ECTS Master.

  Courses are taught in English. Academic work may be conducted in English or in French. Passive knowledge of French is recommended.

  Bachelor or equivalent degree. Admission based on application file. The MAGS programme invites applications from students interested in global studies with a background in any academic discipline.

  General placement test for non-Francophones is not required.

  Master’s students are permitted to go on exchange for one semester maximum, as early as their third semester of study.

• PROFESSIONAL PROSPECTS
  The MAGS aims to prepare students to work in a variety of workplace settings, including but not limited to international organizations (e.g., United Nations), civil society such as non-governmental organizations (e.g., MSF, Care, Oxfam...), public sector institutions at the national (e.g., Ministries of foreign affairs, development agencies) or local level (e.g., municipal authorities), public-private partnerships as well as the private sector.

Yearly admissions are open from January 15th, to February 28th.

Application

Application Process

Applications will only be taken into consideration if the student fulfills the University of Geneva’s registration requirements. Students will have to register with the university between the 15th of January and the 28th of February. All details can be found here.

Students enrolled at the University of Geneva at the time of their application are exempt from the enrolment part of the application process as they are already matriculated. 

Special requirements for the students in the Bachelor of international relations of the University of Geneva

If you are a student graduating from the Bachelor of international relations in the global studies track (orientation en études globales), you are only required to fill a pre-registration form by 28th February.

Language Requirements

Regarding the Master of Science in Global Students, all students must be proficient in English. Native English speakers and students who have successfully completed at least one year of secondary or tertiary (University level) education in English must provide an academic document as proof of proficiency.

All other applicants must provide one of the following accepted certificates with the corresponding minimum score level that equates to C1 proficiency according to the European Framework:

• Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL): Internet-test 100, Paper-test 600, Computer-based test 250
• International English Language Testing System (IELTS): 7.0
• Certificate of Proficiency in English of the University of Cambridge (CPE): A-B-C
• Cambridge Advanced English (CAE): A-B
